Wrestling Match Types

The list of different wrestling match type is extremely long. It is long because it cross sections numerous different genres. For the professional wrestling genre the list is especially long. For example there is the flag match, the empty arena match, the lumberjack match, the blindfold match, the inferno match, the ironman match, and the hangman’s horror match. The flag match is when two professional wrestlers each have a flag in their own corner and the object is to retrieve the opponents flag and raise it while protecting their own. The empty arena match is just as the name implies. The wrestling match takes place in an empty arena with only the wrestlers and referee involved. The match is televised for show later. This particular type of match is not staged very often because of the cost involved in having a wrestling match with no audience. The lumberjack match is when two or more wrestlers are trapped inside the ring and are forced to fight each other because there are other wrestlers surrounding the ring that will not let them leave.

The object for these lumberjacks is to keep the opponents in the ring until a decision is reached. The blindfold match is as the name implies. The opponents each have a blindfold on and cannot see each other. The rules are the same and they still have to pin the opponent’s shoulders to the mat in order to win. This is of course made extrememly difficult with blindfolds on. The inferno match consists of two wrestlers competing inside a ring while the outside of the ring is surrounded by fire. The fire is usually fed by gas pipes. The object of this particular match is to catch an article of clothing from the opponent on fire in order to be declared the winner. Lastly, the ironman match is a wrestling match in which the competition between the wrestlers is set to go a specific amount of time. And at the end of this defined period of time, a winner will be determined. Lastly, the hangman’s horror match is most possible the most brutal of the ones discussed here. It consists of hanging the opponent from dog collars that are attached to the ring ropes all around the ring. In order to hang an opponent the wrestler must find a way to get his opponent into the dog collar and then throw him over the side to ensure that he will hang.
