Women Wrestling
History Of Women’s Wrestling
There are four types of wrestling that are practiced throughout the world: Freestyle, Sambo, Judo, and Greco-Roman. The most popular type of wrestling for women and the one practiced at the Olympics is freestyle. Freestyle wrestling is also known as “catch-as-catch-can” wrestling and has its origins in Great Britain and the United States. Freestyle is more popular among women because too much strength is required for the Greco-Roman varient. The rules for women’s wrestling are the same as for the men. The women are required to wear a wrestling singlet and the same style of shoes. The wrestling periods are of the same length and so are the breaks. There is also the less prestigous but much more popular professional wrestling genre. This particular genre puts less emphasis on actual freestyle or Greco-Roman moves and instead focuses storylines and wrestlers as characters. Even though some of the moves are real, most, if not all, of the matches are staged with the winner determined well before the final bell rings.

Female Wrestling Videos
Videos of women wrestling are quite popular. The kinds of videos depend largely on the style of wrestling, whether it be Sambo, Judo, Freestyle, Greco-Roman, or “Professional.” Most videos will be available at your local big-box retailer in the dvd section. Some other speciality videos might be better purchased at a shop that specializes in selling wrestling gear and equipment. They will most likely stock the videos that the Greco-Roman or Freestyle enthusiast is looking for. Videos may also be purchased through an online vendor such as eBay. Try to buy your videos new, but at a cheaper price instead of buying them used. If you purchase your female wrestling videos used, you may run the risk of buying a video that is defective or doesn’t work. More importantly, before you buy the video(s) make sure that the seller is reputable. You can do this by checking the seller’s rating and also by reading the feedback responses left by other customers. This may save you a lot of time and heartache further down the line.
Professional Women Wrestling
Professional women wrestling is something of a misnomer. It is not professional in the sense that Greco-Roman, Freestyle, Judo, and Sambo are. It consists of matches that are staged well in advance with the winner already predetermined. Also, the moves used in professional wrestling are not the traditional moves associated with the sport. There is an emphasis on storylines and characters that draw comparisons with the modern television soap opera.
