Modern Japan sumo wrestling has evolved to a new form that is not so deadly as the early forms of sumo wrestling history. Today’s sumo wrestling rules include two ways a wrestler can lose a sumo bout. If a sumo wrestler touches the floor of the sumo wrestling ring with any part of his body other than his feet, he is the loser. Also, another sumo wrestling rule states that if a sumo wrestler is pushed outside of the ring that encircles the mats he had lost the match. A sumo wrestling match is usually much shorter than a conventional wrestling match. Many sumo wrestling matches only last a few seconds to a couple minutes. You may have seen a picture of sumo wrestling in which you see the two sumo wrestlers squatting across from one another before the match. This is tradition and must be done before the sumo wrestling match begins.

The sumo wrestling outfits consist of a sumo wrestling suit that somewhat resembles a big diaper. Sumo wrestling costumes come in a variety of colors but have a traditional meaning behind them. In addition to traditional sumo wrestling outfits, you may have also seen inflatable sumo wrestling costumes. These sumo wrestling costumes are inflated when worn and are meant to resemble the high weight of professional sumo wrestlers.
