Sumo Wrestlers

Sumo wrestling has long been thought of as a heavyweight sport. However, some people may be surprised that it is not just the biggest of the big facing off as far as sumo wrestlers go. Sumo wrestlers are widely popular athletes in Japan and the sport has evolved to include smaller weight classes. While all sumo wrestlers are typically “large” men, the increase in weight classes has opened sumo wrestling up to more classes of sumo wrestlers. There are even divisions of sumo wrestling that include female sumo wrestlers.

The history of sumo wrestling is found primarily in Japan. Japan has been home to sumo wrestling for centuries. Japanese sumo wrestling originated as a more violent form of combat, with the loser typically losing his life in the battle. Modern Japan sumo wrestling has evolved to a new form that is not so deadly as the early forms of sumo wrestling history. Today’s sumo wrestling rules include two ways a wrestler can lose a sumo bout. If a sumo wrestler touches the floor of the sumo wrestling ring with any part of his body other than his feet, he is the loser. Also, another sumo wrestling rule states that if a sumo wrestler is pushed outside of the ring that encircles the mats he had lost the match. A sumo wrestling match is usually much shorter than a conventional wrestling match. Many sumo wrestling matches only last a few seconds to a couple minutes. You may have seen a picture of sumo wrestling in which you see the two sumo wrestlers squatting across from one another before the match. This is tradition and must be done before the sumo wrestling match begins.

In countries other than Japan, sumo wrestlers may be thought of as just fat sumo wrestlers or big sumo wrestlers but these generalizations would hurt a sum wrestler. In Japan there are very famous sumo wrestlers who are revered as heroes. Even the heaviest sumo wrestler adheres to strict sumo wrestler diets. Putting on weight in a healthy way can be a challenge for even the fattest sumo wrestler. Sumo wrestler pictures and sumo wrestler photos can be found to show their large size. Pictures of sumo wrestlers may also show the popularity of the sport in Japan. In Japan, even clip art of sumo wrestlers is available for fans.

In addition to traditional sumo wrestling outfits, you may have also seen inflatable sumo wrestling costumes. These sumo wrestling costumes are inflated when worn and are meant to resemble the high weight of professional sumo wrestlers. It is a sumo wrestling fact that many people enjoy taking part in sumo wrestling combat when dressed in one of these fun suits. Party supply companies can oftentimes rent inflatable sumo wrestler costumes as an enjoyable activity during parties and other get-togethers. Sumo wrestling, professional or for fun, can be very entertaining to watch.
